Das DZA beteiligt sich auf vielfältige Weise an der Veröffentlichung von Forschungsergebnissen, der Sozialberichterstattung, der Politikberatung, dem Informationstransfer in die (Fach-)Öffentlichkeit sowie der Veröffentlichung von Forschungsdaten. Viele Veröffentlichungen des DZA erscheinen in wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften oder in Büchern, die in Wissenschaftsverlagen erscheinen (Aufsätze in Fachzeitschriften, Sammelbände, Kapitel in Sammelbänden, Monografien). Das DZA ist bestrebt, der Wissenschaft und der Öffentlichkeit einen möglichst offenen und kostenfreien Zugang zu den Veröffentlichungen des DZA zu ermöglichen. Das DZA hat die „Berliner Erklärung über den offenen Zugang zu wissenschaftlichem Wissen (2003)“ unterzeichnet und stellt in ihrem Sinne die meisten seiner Veröffentlichungen im Open Access bereit (kostenfrei zugänglich, nachnutzbar, nachhaltig und mit strukturierten Metadaten versehen).
